All very good advice, definitely an important starting point for any successful marketing efforts.

Great advice for small business owners. Related to item #5, you'll want to mention that along with social media marketing, they'll want to focus some effort on SEO for their website as well. They can do this on their own if they have at least an hour each day to devote to link-building. Research the Internet for tips and strategies on making your website get noticed in the search engines.

I run a website design and marketing firm, and I must agree. To expand upon that, the organic (on-page) search engine optimization should be the most important factor to consider first.

Once you've got the framework of the site built properly (most sites are not), your site will be much more conducive to faster advancement through the search engines.

Great point. Without SEO your web site will just sit there waiting for customers.
