How Can Direct Marketing Help You Improve Sales

In this internet age when all customer interactions are moving online and businesses can always stay in contact with customers some wonder if there is any value left in direct marketing. Direct marketing was popular before the arrival of internet when customers used to get number of mailings every day in the form of postcards, catalogs, and personal letters. Email is definitely one of the most effective ways to communicate with potential customers. The first way by which you communicate with a client is EMAIL! So if the first pitch is apt, half the work is done. Business emails need to be concise but it would be nice if you add some aesthetic appeal to it.

One needs to have a list of 'opt ins' in order to send emails to non customers. While I think email is effective to such a list, by far not the best way to prospect. Social media AND direct mail (yes, it still kicks butt if done right) work the best to cultivate/create prospects.

To use email effectively (and legally) create an opt-in form on your website or landing page. Use the 80/20 rule, 80% information and 20% selling. Try to sell them too hard and they will opt out or mark you as spam (they do it even if they opted in).

Market smart and all will be well :thumbsup2
