I would agree that there are plenty of reasons for small businesses to take advantage of CRM offerings. I would agree with SoKy that keeping it simple is a smart move. Over-engineering has been the death of many a CRM implementation.

In addition to those ideas listed above, I would recommend taking a look at FreeCRM and Zoho CRM. Both have good CRM functionality and pricing models that are attractive to small businesses.

I would also try doing a Google search to see if there are any CRM applications that may be specific to your industry. That can often be one way of avoiding paying for a lot of functionality you won't have any use for.
