No question that a blog is extra work, but setting up blog on your company's website is a great way to increase your exposure in the search engines and social media.

A blog gives your vistors/customers a place to interact with you and each other via commenting. (A blog builds community) If setup correctly, you can have your blog linked to both your Facebook and Twitter accounts. That way each time you post a new blog post, your Facebook and Twitter are automatically updated. So your fans and followers are directed back to your blog...which leads them to other areas on your website and eventually leads to sales.

In summary a blog can help you in the search engines, but also in social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.
