While social media is a great tool for: Networking, and Creating Brand Exposure, followers do not always convert into customers.

Most people are often bombarded with invitations, tweets and information and sometimes accept a request just for the fun of it.

The key to differentiating yourself is personalized notes, and like Mike suggest getting a target audience. By offering free advice and personalized techniques on how they can improve their business they are more likely to build a "relationship" with you and buy from you.

So start using the IM features in Twitter and send out personal notes.
