Hi iwebshop

I don't think having google webmaster account is not the real reason why google picks portfolio pics and images from your website. Actually the crawler keeps on crawling and images available on your websites will also be indexed against the caption you have provided. This will help you to get ranked in images.google.com. So no need to worry if u are getting visibility in google no matter even if it is images.google.com

until a recent move of platform i had more visitors from image search than from regular. Google including images on page 1 of a text search probably helped.

i got the feeling they were more casual visitors ... but still most welcome

I have one site that's very visually driven (that is, a major reason people go there is to look at the images and the stories that support them).

Many of the images rank quite highly in Google image searches. I assume I'm getting a portion of my traffic via image searches, but I'm not sure if there's an easy way to view/track this. Is there something I'm missing out on? Something I should be on the lookout for in Google Analytics?

i prefer webmaster tools/your site on the web/search queries.

Very often image search results appear on page 1 with the regular results. You might find pleasant surprises!

Alt text on your images seems to be important.

When we build a website we always put Alt text on all of the images to help with the onpage SEO and it also appears to work well for getting those images found on Google images.

I'm pretty sure there is also a setting now in Google Webmaster Tools where you can set whether you want your images to show up in the images search, and if I remember correctly it seems to be off by default...

Thanks. I see a lot of images turning up under "search queries".

I do make sure every image has optimized ALT text, so I'm sure this is helping.

The "alt" attribute is very important, so make sure you are using that.

The alt (alternative) tags are basically those text which appear instead of the image. That are not showing by hovering the mouse on the images, but it would be seen simply if the source of image is broken/long/removed request to server and there is nothing to display in the place of the image you have in your article.
