Default 2007 Top Franchise 500 And Home Based Franchises

Perhaps you may be wondering what the top franchises are for 2007 - including home based franchises.

Interestingly enough, Subway has ranked number one yet again for the 2007 Franchise 500, as well as Jani-King for the home based franchises. Subway is celebrating it's 15th time ranked as number one. I was also excited to see Dunkin' Donuts listed as the number two 2007 Franchise 500 as I am addicted to their coffee!

The story surrounding the creation of the Subway franchise is inspirational in that in 1965, one of the two founding members was only 17 years old.
Quote:
In 1965, 17-year-old Fred DeLuca and family friend Peter Buck opened Pete's Super Submarines in Bridgeport, Connecticut. With a loan from Buck for only $1,000, DeLuca hoped the tiny sandwich shop would earn enough to put him through college. . . .

I know many have speculated on the key ingredients that have made the Subway franchise such a success. . .but I'd like to know what your thoughts are on this? Is it the product? Is it their marketing? Is it their use of nontraditional locations such as hospitals or retail environments?
