Default What Do You Use To Find Your # Of Backlinks?

I've been using a site called submit express, but it seems that the search results vary quite a bit. For example I checked today and it shows I have no backlinks on MSN, which is immpossible seeing as how I have show many backlinks there before.

Any other tools out there you guys use?

Ya know, it's a weird thing how Google shows thus many backlinkns if you their toolbar installed, yahoo a different amount and MSN a sifferent amount.

I recommend doing a search for your web site as the link would be and see how many responses show.

Yahoo seems to be the most comprehensive.

MSN no longer reports backlinks and Google does not report complete data. Yahoo's Site Explorer and web services api provides useful information.

Google Analytics is also invaluable.

On a side note, backlinks are always going to flux. It only take a moment to manually check them and the resulting data is crucial. I always check such things manually.

What does it matter how many backlinks you have? Sure it's nice to brag about them after a few beers, but I wouldn't call that "crucial."

The number of backlinks is basically meaningless. To know if your backlinks have any effect on your ranking in a certain search engine, you would need to know if that particular search engines knows about the link and if so, how much value it assigns to it. The former is relatively easy to find out, the latter next to impossible.

10,000 low-quality links may do nothing for your ranking, while 10 high-quality links may bring you to the top for some search terms. As far as backlinks are concerned, quality is key, not quantity.

Then you might also be interested in how much traffic those backlinks actually bring you. Again, 10,000 low-quality links may not do anything for you, while 10 good ones may make all the difference. But if that's what you want to know, your website statistics will tell you. No need to guess based on number of backlinks.

I use yahoo also. I agree it is the most comprehensive.

search the following

Then select the pull down menu to view all those except for this site.

Ray hit it right on the head. [My webranking software] shows 12,000 inlinks to my site. Rank results were a few longer tails and some third page ranks on the more generic terms. Within the last month added some higher quality links from PR4's and 5's. Bam, instant first page results for 5 or six terms and everything I target has moved into the 20 results.

Google webmaster tools will give you a good idea of what you have compared to a toolbar. For example my toolbar shows 0 site links from google, yahoo on my toolbar shows 5147, checking google directly (link:http://www.greenhomeimprovements.info/) show 0. If I log into google webmaster tools it shows 8388 links. For some reason google likes to sit on links before they display them.
