Default Good Idea To Use An Email Marketing Company For Newsletters?

I'm not clued up in doing fancy html newsletters. So is it worth using someone like http://www.verticalresponse.com or http://www.icontact.com/affordable-email-marketing/

Yes. Here's why:

1. They take care of spam complaints and removing people from the list. Sometimes people who sign up for your list will mark it as "spam" even when you have their double opt in confirmation.

2. They can help you with all your mail merge stuff so you can send fairly "personalized" emails to everyone on the list.

3. It's easier to split test your messages and track open/click rates with them. You can still do it yourself but they make it easier.

4. It is painful to manage a decent sized list by hand.

Thanks. Would they have templates to use though making it easy to send nice newsletters in bulk. I see what you mean by making it easier to send personalised newsletter or emails.

Yes, they normally do. But, also be sure that you create plain text only versions of your emails too since most email clients block images anyway.

Haven't tried Vertical Response, but I have used iContact. They have tons of templates, including some nice blank layouts that you can easily customize with your own graphics and colors.

For my newsletter, I use aweber. It's inexpensive and has all the tools I need, including hosted forms. It, too, keeps you compliant and gives each message a "spam score" for how likely it would be flagged as spam given the content / subject, etc.

That bit made me laugh!

I recall my first email "campaign" and a CEO sending back in ALL CAPS

GET ME OFF THIS LIST!

So any assistance can't hurt.
