I think it is possible to rewrite(gently) an article so it won't be considered duplicate material.

I'm really excited to stumble on the thread because duplicate content is one of the most misunderstood concepts online.

Often, the exact same content appears on multiple different websites. However, google doesn’t penalize them. Why?

This is not duplicate content. The exact same article is allowed to appear on multiple websites.

Duplicate content is when you have the same article on the same website.

Now, that’s not an open invitation to go copy everyone’s original articles and put them on your website! That’s called copyright infringement!

Your article is allowed to appear on all of these websites at the same time:
ezine article
your website
social bookmarking site
any others!

Note: Article Directories (like ezine) Aren’t Good Sharers - some article directories will not list your article if it has been posted in another article directory. In some cases, they may even penalize / ban you!
