Default Misconception...I Am Not A Consignment Store!

Hi,
How do you educate the public? People in our small community think I am a consignment store!

I am on the main street of the downtown area in our small community. My location has so many positive things about it, I don't want to move. My lease is very inexpensive and the building is nice and well cared for. My landlord even installed a new heating and air unit last year.

Unfortunately, my location is also causing me problems and I feel it is part of the reason why people think I am consignment. I am sandwiched between two charities who help the needy, the homeless, and the transient.

I operate a ladies clothing boutique. I have a cute little shop which I keep clean and uncluttered. I enjoy it so much. It is my home away from home. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Here is what I have already done:

1. I don't use clothing racks but have standards and face outs attached to the walls. Flow throughout the store is good and you can see everywhere.
2. I can't change windows or doors but I have attached awnings and colorful banners to the outside of the building.
3. I keep different hours than the charities. They close at noon. I open at 12 and stay open until 6.
4. I have a facebook page for my business. I write articles and have photo's of everything.

One thing I wish I would have done differently is choosing a name for my business. Allnue Boutique seemed to be a great play on words at the time I named it but it has been 2 years so I had better stick with it.

Hello, have you considered adding a tagline under your brand name in logos/branding that would describe/accomplish what you are after?

Welcome to the forum

Thank you for your answer. It appears to be a sound one. I just googled branding, logo's and taglines. I am reading an article where Hallmark is used as an example. It is an intriguing topic I know nothing about but I am going to learn.

Hi allnueboutique,

If you have enough room in your store, have you considered adding a separate section for consignment...it could be a NEW source of income.

I don't see why people would automatically think you are a consignment shop. I guess people don't know what you're all about and that's a problem!

Facebook fan page is good.. do you update? To you engage in the social experience? What about a website? Google places? What kind of internet marketing have you been doing?

Hmm.. I don't really get why people would automatically judge your store as a consignment shop.. Maybe it's the look of the store? I don't know. But as what people have said, adding a tagline is good to let people know that you run a boutique and not a consignment shop.
