Yes, it's true.

First of all, keywords in the domain name can influence SEO a lot, because it will obviously lead your site to higher positions. The other point is that you should try to find brandable domain. It'll give you great advantages users find, remember and share it.

Also don't forget about country-code top-levels domains they'll assist you to succeed in your area.

Exact match domain is still good for SEO even though its value was reduced after panda and penguin updates.

Here's my take on it:

Exact match domain names are still workable, if you can get it down to two words or less. When you're at two words, Google gives you some weight with it. With three and four words, Google will assume your site is spam, and hit you hard for it.

The best you can do is build a unique brand with your domain name, and focus on good content, rather than worrying what your domain name says.

Unique brands have more value with humans than keyword domains anyway, and increasingly, Google cares about what people care about. The strategy of using keyword domain names is played out because people abused it.

Even MSN has come online with limiting the value of exact match domain names. If you're using a long term outlook, you're going to want to look like you're trying to game the system less and less.

The best way to get ahead in search engines is by building a good site, and having noteworthy content. Anybody can do this with their sites. Even a simple blog will work wonders for your ranking, especially if you're posting your blogs to twitter and facebook.

Only if there's been an active site at that domain. If not, then it doesn't really make any difference how old the domain name is. The clock starts ticking when you put up a valid site. The problem with older domain names happens when you totally change what's there. Google seems to take a lot longer to re-index than they would normally. It's really easy to get sent back to the sandbox when you do that.

Using relevant keywords as your domain name of course is good strategy - it simply makes sense to be called what people are likely to enter in as search terms.

Of course as part of a larger strategy it is just one of many spokes of the seo wheel and should not be solely relied upon form dramatic results.

I like to think of a keyword domain in terms of what would someone type into google when they were looking for my services or products. If you can make this into a brandable domain, all the better.

Yes you are right, google used to give importance to keyword related domain names but now it is not.

Domain age does matter in PR. But PR is not important nowadays as google has not updated any site's PR since February. Domain authority and page authority is important.

I agree with this completely. For a long time exact match domains did work. They worked because you could create links to your site using your own domain name, which in turn contained your keyword anchor text.

That's why the internet is riddled with amazon affiliate sites using www.best'insert-product-name-here'.com as their domain name. A very spammy looking approach if you ask me.

Your domain name should be brandable. Make it catchy, something that will stick in the mind of the user. And as amazingsammy states above, Google is getting much better at recognising what people care about..

Choose a name that will appeal to your audience - and by its very nature this will be better for your SEO.

It is one factor out of many factors and is not the only factor that is important. Ideally, a short name that contains a keyword can give a site an a little bump. Think of it as a tie-breaker if you like. Once selected, a domain name lasts forever, so it is important to consider carefully and choose wisely.
