Default Job Candidates With Body Art - Hire Or Not?

There was an interesting post over at Smallbiztrends regarding tattoos and body art in the workplace. I found the post and the responses interesting and thought it would make for a good topic here in the forum.

I'm interested to hear what society's current impressions are of having employees in the work place with examples of body art and/or piercings.

Here's the article link: Job Candidates With Body Art - Hire or Not?

What do you think? Hire or Not? Are there any professionals out there that have been "inked?"

Default Forced to!

We live in a very small town (2500). We have been "forced" to hire girls with tatoos and piercings because of lack of help in our area.
I personally don't like tattos or piercings...(because I'm old) though I haven't seen any difference in the girls work ethics whether they have them or not.
If I had the choice between a girl with or without...the girl without would get the job because we cater to an older crowd.

Default Girls With "Ink"

Glad to see that you do not feel that there is a difference in your employees work performance with or without tattoos.

I don't expect it should make much of a difference in performance, although I do see how your clientel may be put off by it.

The reason that I posted this is because I feel that we will be seeing more and more of this in the workplace in years to come and I'm curious to see what the general feelings of people are toward this topic. Trendy? Acceptable? Unacceptable? Evidence of a creative mind or out-of-the-box thinker? Difference in employee personality - with or without?

I would guess (and this is just a guess) that at least 60% of college students - tommorrow's leaders - have at least one form of body art - be it a piercing or a tattoo - secretively hidden or exposed.

And I found it interesting that you mentioned these employees were female. . .because it is also my belief that women - not men - now make the majority of tattoo/piercing parlor clientel that will eventually end up in the work force.

Thanks for the response - let's hear some more!
