Long, Long Longer Tail Keyword Trick
Hi everybody - I recently have been applying a small trick to my website and it seems to be working very well.
It cannot hurt to tell you about it, and it may help those of you that need really targeted traffic.
As you all know - keyword application is the cornerstone to your website activity.
I will point out the obvious here just in case a very new newbie has found this thread.
If you optimize a page or post on your website for a term like "patio" your competition will be bigger, your chances of being on page one harder BUT the biggest problem is that your visitor is more vague, or rather less targeted.
Now if you did the same efforts to optimize a page or post for a much longer keyword term you are likely to hit page one easier, and get a better quality visitor.
Now that is something that we have all known and do apply every day in our efforts to optimize our websites.
Now I hit upon an idea and tried it a few times, and it would seem to have got great results.
Firstly let me say that this has only worked very well on my local South African websites, and I suspect that it is because there is so much less competition.
Here is what I do...
1. I do keyword research on a keyword that is really related to my website. The whole idea is to impress Google's spiders as much as to get more traffic. I am specifically wanting to have keywords that are on page one so that Google will realize that my website is definitely connected to that term.
Here is an example.
In South Africa the keyword "Wedding dresses" is searches for about 600 000 times a month (broad search)
Now if I dig deeper what most marketers are told to do is to try to only compete with keywords that have less than 40 000 competing pages, and then they still have to meet other criteria, and then it is the "quality page and post" that becomes necessary. naturally this follows with intensive back linking etc.
Problem is that very often we leave that page or post to work on others, and never get that page to its maximum ever. So your have tried to compete on a keyword term that has (say) 1500 "phrase' searches a month - but that page is still quite competitive, and there is a chance that your page is only one page 4 or 5 in the SERPS. So you end up getting very little credit or visitors for that keyword.
Here is an example of a keyword like that in the wedding dresses niche here in South Africa. Meaning local search and a .co.za website.
So "wedding dresses Johannesburg" has only 8490 competing pages, and if your business is in that wedding dress section, and you were in Johannesburg, then you have no choice but to compete for that keyword.
BUT you are competing for only 480 monthly visitors.
Now don't get me wrong, the keyword is already very targeted, as anyone looking up those keyword terms is near to buying, because they are now actually chasing the nearer dress designers to where they live.
So what I do is go deeper, and I really mean deeper.
I look for keywords that have extremely low competition.
EVEN IF THEY HAVE VERY FEW SEARCHES!!!
Here we go - "wedding dress makers" gets only 170 local searches a month. not too bad - BUT here is the brilliant part there are only 122 competing pages.
Now I looked and there are only three that have the keyword in the title and the description.
Can you see how easy this is?
here is another -
"wedding dresses catalogue" this one only gets 91 searches a month.
BUT - wait for it...
2 competing pages. Ha Ha only TWO competing pages.
you need to do them one by one to find good ones, and it does not always work - look at this one - "wedding dresses in johannesburg" only 91 searches a month, and 1110 competing pages. So not worth the effort.
Effort - LOL - the others do not need any effort at all. In fact if I took that one that had only two competing pages, and did two different pages, two different posts, set all the SEO stuff to target the keywords very tightly, and then socially bookmarked them a few times, you will dominate that page forever.
91 new and very targeted customers every month. Ja - I do know that you will actually have to give them a "wedding dress catalog" So make one up. Make it a down loadable freebie, and do each design so unique that they have to come back to you to order it.
I did this in another niche ( I do not actually have anything to do with wedding dresses - although now I might) And I hit page one before I had finished pinging the page.
The idea is to create a page that really answers that searchers exact keyword search, and you gain a really targeted convert easily.
Not only that but you can do this for 20 similar keywords and if they are averaging 80 visitors a month each - you gain 1600 very good clients easily.
Not only that my original idea was to impress the spiders remember?
So now I have 20 posts on page one and 20 pages on page one in Google's SERPS and Google knows this, AND they are all very keyword targeted to my main websites original keyword. So if I really do make wedding dresses, there is a very high chance that Google will lift all my other keywords and pages higher in the SERPS BECAUSE they know what I am all about.
I hope all this chatting made sense to you and that you get some benefit from it.
