Unfortunately, as with the stock market, "past performance is no guarantee of future results."
Knowing what your rankings were in the past might be fun to look at, but in terms of predicting your future rankings, it's useless.
If you want to check the progress of an optimization campaign, you'd do better to compare past traffic with current traffic. (You should be able to get past traffic figures from reviewing server log files.) Rankings are only useful if they bring you traffic. It doesn't really matter what previous rankings were unless the changes in rankings have resulted in more targeted traffic. If rankings have actually improved for useful search terms, comparative traffic reports should tell the tale.
