Sometimes it's not how the card looks but what is on the card that matters. Every time I hand my card to someone I get the same comment. My title says that I'm "CEO and all around nice guy!" People like that.
That's a great idea. Makes you look like a trustworthy man for the job! Too bad other people who aren't so nice can't do it. : )

I think it depends on what type of business the card advertises.

It would be entirely appropriate for someone in a business that really thrives on creativity to have unusual cards. I'm thinking of people in advertising or graphic design, maybe. Then the card is not just contact info; it's also a sample of the kind of out-of-the-box, get-you-noticed thinking the business can offer.

But for me, and many other people also, a card that's too off the wall would have the potential to be misleading. I am a simple virtual assistant. Web and logo design, or anything at all visually artistic, are not among my services. I'm not particularly creative; rather, I am practical and efficient. But if I gave out cards that inconveniently didn't fit into a wallet, what would that say about my practicality and efficiency then?

In any case, the business card is a traditional, if not most popular, way of impressing potential clients. I approve of creativity as long as it comes wallets sized.

Default Simple works better!

Who cares about biz cards these days? I trash them immediately after plugging all the info in my Outlook.

They still fulfill the purpose of getting information to you and build a trust with potential clients.
