There are lots of people that are searching for the precise thing that they are looking for, and these are the people who usually write long tail keywords. If these people landed on our site because of the long tail keywords, there are high possibility that they will convert to sales or leads (applicable for merchant sites).

It's called long-tailed keywords because these niche target comes in much specific subjects through its multiple word phrases to explain a general content. For example, I'd like to target on baby shoes, I shouldn't be just targeting on mere "baby shoes" because surely, there have been lots of websites optimizing this niche so I'll have to think of more ways to break it down as well the numbers of search results. Let's say I'll change it to Nike Baby Toddler Shoes. Once I tried this in search, this can only have 300,000 search queries which can be valuable for my potential and profitable market. Thus, Nike Baby Toddler Shoes is a long-tailed keyword which can increase my conversions better due to less competition.

Thus, another way of SEO.

I think the long tail now should be added with wonder wheel research keywords and combining it with LSI base unique content.long tail alone is effective, however since the competition is harder and heavier each year you should consider other link building strategy

I could not perform my marketing without Long Tail Keywords, not only are they cheaper to target, the results are much better than SEOing for single words

I check my hittail every week and then tailor make articles to suit so our customers get the information they are looking for

Long Tail also opens up new ideas for the website you are building allowing you to broaden your horizon

Before a purchase decision is made, people tend to type multiple searches, some searches can even search up to a dozen times before making a decision! (this is off and online)

These searches will not be the same phrase over and over, they will change their search keywords until they find what they are looking for an happy, this is called a "buying cycle".

A buying cycle consists of
Interest Phase
Research Phase
Purchase Phase

You should ideally come up for all these phases so you can gain interest from the user, if they see your webiste come up for "interest, research, purchase" you will gain a lot more trust from the searcher. The purchase phase searches tend to be more specific than those in the interest and research.

Remember that search engines analyse patterns on your website to determine the focus of your content, it does not just come and count the amount of times a phrase is entered within your content pages and titles.

SEO is not a quick fix for your website it needs to be controlled and monitored every month.

If you build a solid site with great content, this will attract good quality links and over time it will become easier to rank for more competitive terms, however, if you get a good layout and the long tail right you will set that stage for future rankings.

Hope that helps

It is a more specific form of a generic keyword - like if your site keyword was Cactus then long tailed keywords for that would look like this: christmas cactus, cactus plants, cactus flower, san pedro cactus.

I have just recently been researching long tail marketing and came across this older, but interesting article. I will be implementing the long tail approach to our marketing in the near future and am hoping for good results.
