Default Why Business Owners Need To Pay Attention To Pinterest

Hi everyone, I thought I would share here my thoughts on Pinterest and why I think many business owners could benefit from it. Hope you find it helpful!

What is Pinterest? Itís a virtual pinboard and a social photo sharing website that allows users to create and manage theme-based image collections. Itís also hands down the hottest new social network out there.

Unlike other flash-in-the-pan social networks, Pinterest is definitely worth paying attention toĖand not just by visually-oriented business owners like retailers, but B2B and B2C businesses as well.

Before you groan that itís just another way to waste time on the web, there are a few things you need to know about how this tool can work some incredible marketing magic for YOUR business in 3 main areas: branding, traffic and conversion.

If youíre stumped about how to begin benefiting, here are some ideas for you:

1) Use it to showcase visual elements from your business: info product graphics, striking images from your best blog posts, infographics related to your industry and testimonials.

2) Use it to give people a peek behind the scenes of your business: perhaps photos of yourself with clients, snapshots from live events, your workspace or team members.

3) Use it to grab traffic: include your business name in your username, add your URL to your profile, fill out the About section thoroughly, connect your account to Facebook and Twitter and link business-related visuals to your site or a landing page, particular blog posts or product pages. Also, donít forget to include your business name or URL in your pin and/or board descriptions.

Just as with other social networks, build goodwill and engagement by commenting on, liking and re-pinnining othersí content and encouraging others to follow and connect with you on Pinterest.

Your to-do? If you are not on Pinterest already, youíll need to go to
Pinterest.com and request an invite. Once youíre there, create your profile and begin strategically creating boards using the tips Iíve just shared. Then, use the feature that allows you to follow your Facebook and Twitter friends automatically and begin having fun!

Great post Christine! We started using Pinterest a few months ago and it was slow going at first but we are starting to see a lot more engagement from our followers as well as a lot more followers.

One tip I've picked up is to pin images from other websites, don't just repin other people's pins. Most pins are repins, so if you can pin a lot of new images, you're more likely to get repins and followers.

I hear what you are saying, but it is like every other week a new social media site or service, and it is super time consuming to post and keep up with all of these activity.

Pinterest is a great site for online retail businesses that can showcase their products. A company like ToyShelf.com can make boards based on themes like educational board games to colorful building blocks. It's great for small businesses to increase their brand identity online as well as get potential (and already established customers) interested in new products. Visual marketing is great for any type of business!

Very True, Christine!
We have an online furniture business and need to start using Pinterest more. My wife uses it personally all the time and is always showing me some neat decorating idea or recipe.
