Default Thinking Of Using Radio To Advertise My Business

Hi,

I've started a small company selling pictures and have launched my own website. i was thinking about advertising on local radio but don't really know how effective it is or what to go for. I have found these guys http://www.radioworks.co.uk who seem to cover a lot of things but I have no idea what to go for. Do I go for http://www.radioworks.co.uk/airtime or should I think about some http://www.radioworks.co.uk/broadcast-pr

any advice would be greatly received.

Dan

Radio advertising, along with other promotional schemes could help you increase your brand promotions. Everyday, most number of the population listens to the radio. May it be at work, at home and even on the streets. Whilst most people are on the move, they are mostly listening to car radios. This virtually reaches most of the working population. With that, your product can gain prominence even to those people on the rush.

Another benefit of radio advertising is that it allows you to promote to in your target market. You can always choose radio stations based on its typical listeners- aged, youth or business people and advertise to who is reaching your preferred target.

Radio promotions works best with targeting a specific set of audiences but it's too limited. You should also venture other ways to market your business. Online promotions utilizing social media or SEO techniques have been proven effective. But that depends on how well you use these marketing strategies.

Hi Dan,
radio can be good and it can be awful. You first need to do yur homework. If you click on the links in my sig file you will come across either my website or my profile page on Smashwords. There you will find a free reports about 5 questions you need to aske before you sign on the line. (The Smashwords site is quicker).
Radio is good because it is perceived as the listener's friend. But you got to be prepared to make your ad work.
Know who you are selling your pictures to and what sort of radio they listen to.
Decide whether you want branding (a long, slow campaign with a gradual result) or a high impact SELL! SELL! SELL! campaign that announces a sale or a new roduct or artist.
AND... make sure you capture the name and contact details of everyone who walks in the door. You could give away a picture a month as you build your database. Don't get me in the door only to never talk to me again; and then have to spend more money on advertising to get me back in the door again.
I hope this helps.
Cheers,
David

Hi Dan,

As a small business owner who started his business only 6 months ago, I see your dilemma.

I used to ask myself similar questions all the time. People came to me with what seemed to be fantastic offers for advertising on national television, radio, newspapers, etc... and I found it really hard to take decisions. I call them shiny objects and it is so hard to resist the temptation to jump on them
Until I followed a friend's advice and drew up a marketing plan for the next 6-12 months.

It helps a lot, even though it constantly changes, it gives you something to fall back on. It enables you to determine a budget and track the results (you set goals for every activity you do). We asked ourselves two really helpful questions when we were creating the plan:

1) who are my target audience and where are they? - this eliminates a lot of those shiny objects (no use for a cheap ad in a national newspaper if you are targeting local customers)

2)am I going to reach this audience more than once? I do not spend money unless my marketing efforts have a chance of reaching the same target more than once. - again, a lot of shiny objects fail this test.
Having a marketing plan really makes my live a lot easier
