Cost is tough to discuss without knowing much about what you are looking to do. You can find local trade shows for a few hundred bucks. Conversely, large shows can cost thousands.

The displays are not cheap but a good one will last for years and is worth its weight in gold. It is the first impression for a client and attracts people to come talk to you.

Joint Venturing is a good idea for your first time. I know the budget is tight but you may want to consider a consultant. Would help you avoid a lot of first timer mistakes.

Default Simple Solutions

Depending on the type of product or service you're pushing, or your booth space you can get a smaller display and focus on promotions or a consultation/seating area for some one on one time with clients maybe provide a free consultation to attract traffic? Some trade show display companies may be willing to work with you on a certain price. Try contacting a sales rep or customer service rep and find out what they have to offer based upon your budget or what discounts they can provide, maybe just carry their logo on your display in the corner or something of that sort. Hope this helps!
