In my opinion, good work = good dealing = good salary. This is simply equation, clear for everyone. Employee and employers are equally intelligent and read this same articles. Do you serious think, this common tricks could be effective? Of course, we talk about average, not extreme cases.

I agree with your equation relating good work to good salary. I don't consider the suggestions made in the article gimmicks / tricks and neither do employees, in my opinion. These are common sense approaches that everyone appreciates. There may be cultural differences across different countries; but for the most part everyone appreciates frequent thanks and fun environment. There was a study published a while ago that showed giving small, frequent rewards motivate employees more than giving a large, one-time rewards.

OK, maybe it's usefull on stable labour markets. If salary is more or less equal in region or branch, this ideas could be helpful to keep proven crew. Of course my point of view is specific for my country, where very often motivation tricks are used instead of, not beside, decent money.

Greetings.

For some small businesses, it is not financially viable to pay high wages, so the other strategies that the article suggests are great for boosting morale. Employees want to feel appreciated, and there is nothing better than positive reinforcement with small rewards or words of praise.
