Default What To Do With Bad Links?

We had a company tell us they would build back links for us and of course we bought in to it and now we see that a lot of the links have really bad link text. We gave them a list of keywords but they did not use them. Some of the text just does not match our website at all. Should we remove those links one by one and if we do not will they hurt us on Google?

Default bad links

Well.

I would build good ones instead that way the ratio of good to bad will move in your favour.

Google now has a disavow feature, google it, that allows you disown links you don't like.

I must admit to trying it without an success, but I have heard it work for other webmasters.

Thank you for the reply. I will look at that today, when you come online you try anything to get traffic and sometimes that anything can hurt if you do not know what you are doing.

Trying the disavow is a good idea, as is building more good links to counteract the bad. However, I think it might be helpful to contact some of those directories or sites with the bad link and ask them to remove the link. Many of them will not respond but some will and that will be helpful.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, how exactly can you tell bad links from good one?

Did you inform the company about this? It's important to eliminate those undesirable links since it does more harm than good to your site.

Low quality links or unwanted links can be disavowed with this link http://www.google.com/webmasters/too...vow-links-main, what you have to do is to identify those urls which you think will affect your website badly. You can even disavow the whole domain.

Aaaarrrrgggghhhhhhh. Sorry, needed that after reading many of the responses. (Not all there were a couple of good ones)

Question:
Do you have reason to believe these links are hurting you? Anything in Webmaster tools? Sudden drop in traffic? Sudden drop in SERPs not attributable to some unrelated algorithm change?

IF SO: then by all means spend time, effort and money on getting the ones you think could be hurting you removed.

IF NOT: DO NOTHING. Do not waste more time effort and money trying to fix something that isn't broken. Learn you lesson and move on.

And absolutely DO NOT simply accept an offer from companies offering to 'sort out your backlinks'. They are as likely to be scamming you as much as the company building the links.
