Default Small Business Grants???

Hi, I am new here so I hope this is the right place to ask this.
My husband and a friend of his are getting ready to start a business together. The problem is that my husband and I unfortunatley still live week to week on our paychecks and savings is somthing that is not in our vocabulary. We have been looking into getting grants but I dont know what to look for or where to look. Everything I find is trying to sell us somthing. Is there in such thing as a small business grant. We are 39 years old and I know what my husband and his friend are doing is a very good business and not some fly by night adventure. I really want to find a way to make this happen for him. If anyone has any suggestions it would be great.

Thank you.

Hi texsweety and welcome to the forum!

You might check with your local chamber of commerce. They should be able to steer you in the right direction.

Default Try the SBA.

The Small Business Administration has mini- and micro-loan programs for startups and sole proprietors. They also sponsor regular educational forums (for free!) where you can talk to volunteer business owners who have been there and done that. Just check the site for your local chapter. They've put together a nice primer on financing that's been very useful. You may also want to check in with your local SCORE program for additional mentoring. These are invaluable resources for new entrepreneurs. Listen to these guys and you'll never have to reinvent the wheel.

Hope that helps - and good luck with your venture.

And don't forget the Senior Corps Of Retired Executives (S.C.O.R.E). They help small businesses in ALL sorts of areas free-of-charge.

Don't know how I could have forgotten to mention SCORE.

Default Grant options

You may want to put the business or a majority part in your name. As a woman there are many more grants available and a bit easier to obtain than for men. Try looking at the "Secret Book of Free Money" that lists Grants, loans and sources for funding.
