Default Blog On Different Domain Than Your Website?

My blog is on my company's website's subdomain, but looks like a completely different site, so for all practical purposes it's 2 different sites. My blog has gotten some pretty good rankings, which has made me wonder whether it would be much better to have my blog on our site. The main benefit, as I see it would be to have the navigation to my website pages right there. So while people check out the blog, they can click onto other pages of the main website.

The reasons we didn't do this initially are (1)it's much easier to blog using a 3rd party site like blogger and (2)I was told that it's better to have it on a subdomain than on the same domain for SEO purposes.

so I guess there are really 2 questions here - for SEO is it better to have on a (1) subdomain, (2) same domain (and same site) or (3) completely different domain, and for getting people to view pages of your site wouldn't it be better to just have the blog on your site?

What will be the most useful to your audience? Are the blog and the main website targeting the same audience? Is the content directly related or complimentary in some way? If so, I would tend to put it all on one domain.

If you want to make them into separate sites just be sure to redirect the old subdomain to the new one along with associated pages. There are ways to do this that will minimize detrimental impacts to your traffic.

I don't really know how a subdomain would help SEO. But then again, I really never try to "work around" the search engine algos. I tend to build content around my audience

Also: if you decide to integrate into one entity then be sure the design/look/feel/theme is consistent so as not to confuse visitors.

When it comes to SEO factors, the subdomain usually inherits some, if not all of, the main factors that the domain has. So, for general SEO purposes, it's good to put your blog on your current domain. Don't forget about the fact that a brand new domain is, well, a brand new domain...and some say that you will have to wait a while until Google will like your brand new domain.

I would consider the overall goal of the blog: is the blog going to be a separate entity or will it serve as a "company blog" or a way to attract visitors and bring them to the rest of the site?

How about taking your first block on the right and creating two links that match the only two options on your main site's landing page?

Have you tried linking from your blogs to your site, for example the blog about on hold messages could link to the service on your main site.
