Default Hurricane Katrina

Our prayers go out for anyone in the path of Hurricane Katrina. Anyone in the path, please keep us up to date so we know you are ok. I know that Eric Yonge (username: EYStudios) is in Mississippi and I'm going to try and get in touch with him. Does anyone else live in the area that's likely to be hit?

Katrina is expected to be a
Category 4 or 5 hurricane when it hits land. A Category 5 is the highest the rating scale goes to.

Hi, Robert... Thanks for the concern. I'm actually in Ft. Lauderdale for a wedding, around where Katrina first hit! I actually live in Northeast Mississippi, so we're still waiting to see how Katrina does there. My dad's house is close to Mobile, and he went up to stay in my house while I'm gone. As soon as it clears up, I'm driving back.

Looks like a ton of folks will be affected by this thing. Keep on praying.

Thanks,
Eric

I still haven't heard from any of my New Orleans contacts. I'm sure most of them were able to get out if they wanted to.

I was there for 8 months on contract. I recognize exactly where most of the news videos are taking place. I can only stand to watch a few minutes at a time now.

All these best to you and your dad. Count my prayers in.

Yellowwing, I'm in florida so i have a bit of experience. I understand the concerns but don't worry yourself too much as the reality there is i suspect that your contacts are all okay but communication is not feasible. Its tough when this is the case as cell phone's don't work outside of satelite and those are rare. ham radio can be a good route when it is an emergency. The people there really need everyone else to keep their heads on the shoulders and provide full support possible.

A good communication solution for future reference is for contacts in a potential hurricane area to establish one person outside of the area to communicate with and then anyone needing updates contacts that individual. That way if communication is difficult the person in the poor communication area only has to make one call to update everyone concerned which is often many and not feasible to do individually during very difficult times.

Default Disaster Relief Ideas

I have opened forums at http://www.DisasterReliefIdeas.org for the discussion of ideas to aid disaster relief in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. I am not soliciting donations, only ideas. Experts in aspects of disaster relief (housing, healthcare, rebuilding, etc.) are also able to rate these ideas, giving us a means of identifying the most promising ones, which will be shared with disaster relief professionals and persons in authority. Please help our society by contributing your ideas, especially if you are unable to contribute financially to relief efforts.

Please spread the word, if you know other thoughtful people who might have ideas to contribute, or experts who could help to rate the ideas.

Thanks very much and best wishes,

Logan

Hi, I'm relatively new, but I wanted to offer my wishes for safety and health to any forum members affected by the hurricane both directly and indirectly. Luckily my family and friends are not located in N.O. I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like for the citizens of New Orleans.

There are many great websites to foundations and orgs. out there to help out financially, I donated some money today. I wish there was more we could do.
