In simple words, https// is more secure than http//. Also https requires certificates and this ensures anti fraudulent activities.

Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) is a combination of two different protocols. It is more secure way to access the web. It is combination of Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTPS) and SSL/TLS protocol.
Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) is a protocol used in networking. When you type any web address in your web browser, your browser acts as a client, and the computer having the requested information acts as a server.

Https// provides optimum security. Especially for bank sites, shopping sites or anything that has the need to obtain the credit card data and do money transactions. Twitter has also started offering https connections.

A well explained thread about the difference of HTTP and HTTPS but to clear everything this issue has nothing to do with the search engine rankings.
