If you're still visiting this forum, can you let us know how the website is ranking now?

From my observations the Penguin/Panda updates last year did crack down on websites using methods to rank which go against Google's guidelines.

However, I have also noticed that it seems like google has become lenient again, and these black hat techniques are working again. Maybe google is letting out some slack for people to hang themselves again?

I'm not 100% sure, but it is obvious that the spammers are ranking quite well at the moment.

Search engine rankings shouldn't be your main consideration for your website buildup. It is a tool to attract prospects, since people are more likely to click on sites that appear on the first page of SERP. What you should do is to understand what your prospects really need and tailor that to your content. Contents must be original. Always update your site with new content regularly.

I agree. It's hard to conclude without analyzing it first. Maybe you should analyze your site to see what happened or what had caused the sudden change in your traffic and ranking. Google's updates are getting more strict, that's why we should make sure that we are up to date and are just doing the right thing - no spamming.

I believe last major Penguin update happened in Oct 2012 , when most of people lost there rankings.
We totally changed our strategy . Gone for quality text and quality link building.

So recommend

1) Go for quality links from relevant website
2) Use different anchor tags and prefer use your company brand name
3) Use tools like seoprofiler.com or backlinkwatch.com to fine competitors links

Hope this helps
greetings

Okay. No duplicates. You don't do web spam. Hmmm.... I would suggest that you review your backlink profiles. You may not be aware that you have put your links on poor or spammy websites. Be sure that you only build backlinks on good sites.

I got hit with negative SEO spam and am looking at what to do going forward. From what I have found on the net (because everybody is always right) was having a diverse link profile. You can use naked urls to reduce your ratios, keywords, and no follow or follow links.

The problem I always run into is so much conflicting info
