I'm not sure I would provide a blanket statement that one is most effective. I think because of the local nature of the promotion you have to realize that the potential audience is smaller and thus comes along less expectations. Doing one alone, isn't going to rattle your business. Doing all of them, may provide increased exposure over time versus if you don't.

While these are all great simply because they are free to use. I wonder if the general public knows about these ones

1. Google Local
2. Google Coupons
3. Google Base
4. Yahoo Local
10. Create a Lens at Squidoo
11. LinkedIn

Even I hadn't heard of a couple of these. Could be because I'm in Australia. Does Google local work in my area?

I'm definitely going to look into everything here I'm not already using. But I'd say that unless you are targeting the tech community. The pay off for most is minimal right now. But they may take off in the future…

…So if it's not too much work get into them now.

Crimson Fox,

LinkedIn does not work for general exposure IMHO. It is ideal for networking (kind of like facebook or myspace for grown-ups )

Others like LinkedIn include:

I agree with your comment about the payoff not being instant. But then again, neither is good SEO!
