Default Buying Expired Domains

I have found a domain that receives great traffic, but the business closed a while back. It is privately registered and I have had no luck getting a hold of the owners. The Domain expired last week and hasn't hit the market yet. Has anyone else bought an expired domain before?

Godaddy has a junk page up instead of the original site. Wont that kill the google juice, already flowing to the domain?

I buy them when I see something I like. Most are garbage, some are pretty good.

Make sure you check into the traffic source. If you're looking at the traffic estimate from the GoDaddy auction page, double and triple check it. Use compete.com (or similar service) to get a better idea of the actual traffic. Use the WayBackMachine to see what type of website was there before. If it was a spammy site, you'll want to stay away.

The SE's MAY cut the site when it changes ownership. It's happened to me. BUT, some of the sites return to their previous ranks and regain the traffic.

For 10 bucks buy it...

I bought one a few years ago and it drove plenty of traffic to my main site I was promoting. Too bad I had to let it go because of tight finances.

I'm not sure how well this works anymore or even if it does at all - re Google free search results, that is. Google have progressed a lot over the last few years.

Regards,
Mark.

The problem I see with buying expired domains is the a large amount of irrelevant traffic generally coming in.

I think it depends on what the original domain was being used for. As someone mentioned earlier use the Wayback Machine to see what the site was used for in the past.

Default Using tools like exdomain to hunt expiring domains

So far I was exploring the expiring domains from the expiring domain lists manually, checking all the values I needed with free on-line tools. Which takes time, but recently there is some hype about this eXdomain soft which does this all for you, but it's quite costly. I am about to buy this but I am not sure, does anyone use it ?

If the compnay went bust, ask yourself do you really want their angry customers contacting you.

Forget about backlinks to the domain, I think when it expires they will become worthless to.

If though, you really like the domain, I have bought one through snapnames. Although they also missed one too.

If its any good, you will need to use a systemised way of capturing the domain.
