Default How I Made A Fortune On Ebay Using Dropshippers... And Then Lost It All

This poor guy had a hard lesson.

"My dropshipper shipped my first 30 orders only to find out that he had shipped off nothing but all wrong sizes and wrong colors. So, I had a lot of complaining customers. Some even went straight to PayPal to complain causing PayPal to limit access to my account."

Catch it @ http://www.smallbusinessbrief.com/ar...ns/005438.html

Any of you experience anything like this?

I sell dropshipped goods virtually daily, but I do not use ebay or PayPal, both of which can cause problems, even to legitimate sellers.

Kevin's initial problem was selling products known to be often imitated. Even buying on line and having them shipped to you is risky with sneakers and clothing, since the bulk of what is sold online is bogus goods. To dropship sight-unseen such items is just asking for problems.

Being just 19 and still in school, or just out, he should have been still in the research mode. In addition to clothing and sneakers, handbags and music/video products are often knockoffs. It's a wonder he was also not VERO'd by ebay for selling counterfeit goods.

On word of advice to all, well, a couple of words, Avoid Alibaba.com, it's overwhelmingly listings of knockoff products. There are a few legitimate manufacturers / brokers / distributors there, but by far the bulk are hustlers.

Lightbulb Response to Linda and Pete

Hi Linda,

I was thinking about that too. It seems the best way to go here is by testing the drop-shipper with a few orders first. You must have submitted the 30 orders in a relatively short period of time? I would have been out of there way before 30 got messed up.

Hey Pete,

I've heard a few times now about staying away from Alibaba.com. That's all it takes for me. In my opinion, it doesn't make much sense to just "make up" stuff like that - I can't see why anyone would do it.

Alright, thanks for the information Linda and Pete.

Just to clarify, Linda's just telling us about the article -- she didn't write it.

According to the article, the guy who wrote it had a lot more than 30 orders:

You can sell 250 pairs of shoes to someone in Nigeria in minutes.

Like any other business, the day to day, even the week to week don't mean a whole lot. It's the monthly, quarterly and annual NET profits that make the difference.

You can do quite well with some dropshipping, but you have to have a reliable source and something that's not "footballed" all over ebay to do it.

Here's an example - http://onlinefundevent.org/teeshirts/html/page_018.html

I haven't found much luck at all using eBay and drop shippers. By the time I list items, and they are running, the item gets discontinued, and I have to take th listing down with no sales.
