I am very interested in learning more about how to use social networking to expand business -- would others be willing to share some of your tactics?

Yes what ChristineG said

But also...

If you have the time invest it and see how things go social media isn't for everyone or every business. I didn't think much of Twitter until I started following a few SEO types and now with Twitterfox installed I find the occasional tweets from users like smallbizanswers and dailyseo very useful... Facebook seemed pointless to me until I was able to message a friend of mine in Australia to find out how he was after a major operation (didn't want to pester via the phone but as I saw him online just started chatting)...

My advice; try it with no business agenda and see what you think...

I've been trying to get up the courage to social network; joining this forum was a major step! Is it best to start with one site until I feel comfortable? Is it better to contribute to several blogs? I'm in the process of re-focusing my business so my goal is to attract customers. Thanks!

The social networks can work good depending on your business and how you use them. If you can connect to people that you can share ideas with it works even better.

Default Still confused about social networking

The posts in this thread and in 'Social Media sites to use' have been very informative. I've been reading contributor's Twitter pages, and I'm not sure I understand how to use Twitter for my business. Maybe my life is too dull......Or I'm too un-cool.

Default Social Media Ain't What You Think

Social media is the hot topic on the web. Twitter is getting more airtime than most celebrities. Your grandma has a Facebook account.

But social media ain't what you think it is. I'll explain...

what we really need is to experiment on things that can drive traffic to our sites, and learn new things, reading may help but not all of the information that we get are true, so don't base your strategies through the ones you read, try to implement your own solutions and come up with your own answers.
