If you are planning to make any money from the blog then probably you best choice for simple to use is wordpress.org (wordpress.com is for personal sites that are not for making money).

Then go to Amazon and find a book that is simple and gets good reviews to help you. Make sure the book is relatively recent. Wordpress went through a major update and changed how it is laid out so the screenshots in older books will be different from what you are seeing on your screen and make it very confusing. I always start my search for a basic book with the Dummies series and see if it up-to-date and well reviewed.

Wordpress is the easiest and the most popular platform for blogging, especially for beginners. Two of my blogs are based on worpress.

I agree that wordpress is the best if you want to make money. Its also very easy to use and you can explore and teach yourself how to personalize your site.

There's a couple of different ways to 'make a blog'...you can, as the other posters suggested, use Wordpress (all free, heaps of different themes available), or if you actually want to 'make your own blog theme' then you can use something like Artisteer, which is what I use for creating my own Wordpress blogs. This allows me to modify and create a unique blog theme from the ground up... Hope that helps... Martin
