LinkedIn mostly caters to people who own businesses and are professionals while other social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest have users who caters to all kinds of audience.

It all depends on your niche and company. If your company is selling some professional industry products then linkedin is the best medium to market. Linkedin also offer ads which you can use to target the people from your niche. Facebook on the other hand is more casual where people from all likes and interest come together. Young crowd can be targeted from facebook.

For the ad campaigns I have been running on LinkedIn, I can say that I got the highest cost per acquisition (compared to AdWords and Facebook). When I learnt it was 4 USD for a click, I decided to buy impressions instead. This proved to be equally expensive, because we ended up paying pretty much the same price for click. I would recommend LinkedIn for being very well targeted which increases the relevance of your visitors. But at the same time very expensive compared to other online marketing channels.

Default Comparison chart

Interesting that you ask, I actually created a very simple chart that compares social media sites with marketing opportunities for B2B and B2C.

I have received a lot of good feedback from another forum on it, so I'll share here as well:

Good link Daine! Thanks!

Yeah, LinkedIn is the main social media site for business to business, but I don't really see any business being conducted, but there are a bunch of business people there!

Post How LinkedIn Differs from the others

LinkedIn differs from the others because it was designed solely on the basis of professional networking.Look at its design even-you can't add photos other than the profile photo, can't poke friends, can't embed videos, can't host a blog, can't search for singles in your area.Nor can you customise the colours or layout of your profile page.
The LinkedIn profile page appears clean and streamlined because this platform is part of a conscious effort to put professional polish on social networking sites.
This is your online resume.

Default Linkedin

LinkedIn is good to do research, I've found some good contacts by checking the network of my competitors.

I can't say its ever led to a sale for me. But I can see how it could work.

Default Re: Feedback

As per my suggestion, LinkedIn is in the business for helping the organizations to hire, to market and to sell. Apart from this, while going through an article, I came across a statement there that the focus has now been extended upto making things simpler, with innovations including many technological advancement.
