Have you tried something radical like searching Google for "business directory"?

General business directories are of limited use these days. Very few people go to a general business directory to find a company. More likely, they'll search on the industry, product or service they're interested in. Which means that focused niche directories will still sometimes come up in search results and may still have a limited capacity to generate traffic for companies listed therein.

Is there a particular industry niche you're interested in?

Google is your best friend

But generally, there are no better and more "SEO valuable" directories than DMOZ and Yahoo directory. Although, it can be hard and expensive to get there.

Hmm, if you're going to submit on directory submission sites, before submission, you should check the status of the website first, check if the pages are still getting indexed by Google, check the indexed pages from the past week and month, if there are results, then it means you can still submit there.

By searching in Google you will get a list of directories, but choose high PR and well known directories instead of cheap low PR directories.

Directories can be very specific to the niche of interest. Spend a little time researching your top five competition. Find out what backlinks they have and where their customers hang out.

Personally I like to have a clear understanding of who and where my avatar is going on the internet.

Create a Google Sheet or a Excel Workbook and start a list of all the sites that have a meaningful link to your top competition.

This might help researching your competition, 5-free-online-backlink-checker-tools.html.

Once you have this information you'll see it's a list of posts, directories and a lot of stuff you never heard of. Now you can create strategy for virtual networking and authority building.
