Default Google Radio Ads

Coming soon...Google radio ads. Its been reported that they have been played in the detroit market, and they will be generally available in 3 months.

http://news.com.com/Google+rides+the...3-6099025.html

Quote:
"We are in the process of introducing AdSense for radio, which is essentially the integration of the dMarc console and management tools into our advertising system. There are a number of very interesting deals being negotiated," Schmidt said. It's a typically ambitious effort for Google, which got into the radio business in January with its $102 million acquisition of dMarc Broadcasting, a company that had an automated radio advertising system.
Will we eventually end up with advertising options via Google for internet, magazine, radio, newspaper etc? I remember reading somewhere the magazine version of this was sent back to the drawing board after an initial poor run.

It's an interesting approach to be sure. I think it will generate alot of revenue for the radio stations, but i'd be concerned at the scattershod way the ads would run. The key to advertising on the radio is frequency. Say it, say it again , say it a thousand times. I'd worry that a clients ad wouldn't run enough to be effective. But I'd be interested to see how it ends up working.

If you had a huge budget, and can play around with Internet "anything", good for you. It should be a cost per click campaign.

JenSense recently spotted a for hire ad with "Adsense for Audio" ... so it has a 'name' now -

http://www.jensense.com/archives/200...e_for_aud.html

The naming of it with 'audio' included seems a bit of a broader base than radio specific as many anticipated. what other audio mediums do you think might be on the drawing board? if any?

Chris, any thoughts yay or nay to the rumor that G might partner or purchase Clear Channel?

Cnet post

There are a few other articles speculating that as well. Pretty much anyone tries to sue G, and CC likes to sue anyone. Seems like a strange match.

i don't know anything outside of what has been reported, but my thoughts are that it may happen in a similar way that search partnerships have been established. If they ads test/perform, google will need to make distribution deals. In the past these have included ownership stakes. For example, I think it is still the case that google owns a share of aol and yahoo owns a share of google. I don't think Google will buy Clear Channel outright, but perhaps a share of ownership will end up being part of the ad distribution deal.

Took a while, but this week Google and Clear Channel announced a radio ad agreement -

a multi-year agreement that enables Google to sell a guaranteed portion of 30-second advertising inventory available on more than 675 of Clear Channel's AM/FM stations.
