A Snippet:

As an average Web user, you don't have to be a fan of social media optimization. However, as a site owner, you do need to know that it exists and be aware of the effects and potential benefits it could have on your site.

Great article. This is something I have always been intimidated by and this was really helpful.

Thanks for the link Jen and great article Lisa. A really nice overview of what social media is, why you should be thinking about it, and how to do well with it.

Very useful article, I also liked the recent SEOmoz post which listed information about 20 social media sites.

Default Consider your target demographic

Before you go linking up every website though, make sure you consider your target audience. It would probably be a big waste of time for you to Digg a makeup website as Digg it tends to be very techy.

Thanks for the very useful article...chock full of downright information!

My goodness, there is just so much information in this forum, I think I could read for the next 10 years and still never finish! Guess it's time to stop reading and get to work!

This forum rocks!!

Aloha Jenn,

Thanks for sharing this. I came to this evening to specifically look up information on social media. My blog is on motivating wahms, which is my passion, and I couldn't see how working with Digg would benefit me. I was right but now this article by Lisa has opened my eyes to explore other social media.

Have A Great Day!...and...

Superb article, many thanks.

Question: Where would someone find SMO experts that can create campaigns on behalf of less experienced marketers or small business owners who don't have the time to dedicate to it themselves?
