Default Adwords Content Network Boost For New Ads

I have noticed a strange phenomenon on Adwords. When I create a new ad it will recieve a heavy hit on the google content network within two days. Then it goes to a low volume pace which is probably based on some value algorithm to google. It appears they give new ads a huge advantage over older ones.

Example: I created a new ad on Jan 23rd and had over 100,000 impressions by Jan 25. Over the next few days I had less than 200 impressions per day.

I added some variations to my ads on Jan 31 and saw an immediate rise in impressions (11,000+) by noon on Feb 1.

I did not change my budget or keywords dramatically. And since this is the content network rather than the search network I can only assume google is giving favoritism to new ads.

This is a guess, but they might want to push the new ads early to collect data about click throughs, etc as soon as possible. Once they have the data they can better match the ad with their algorithm.

Just speculation though.

Could also be affected by Webmasters choosing to block certain domains...

I thought of that, but the domains for the variations are the same and the original ad also got a boost today.
