Default Warning: How An Email Newsletter Can Cost You Sales And Reputation

Based on the personal experience of a client who managed to get his domain and server IP address added to a blacklist for sending out newsletters to his own client base (only a few dozen customers). It took quite a while to get the issue sorted out

Email newsletters are easily one of the most powerful and cost-effective marketing tools a business has to generate both new and repeat business on a regular basis, yet many business owners who decide to start a newsletter make one big mistake that can actually end up creating a huge headache in the log run -- potentially costing time, revenues and reputation.

The problem is some people start a newsletter, hastily send out the first issue which tends to be rather crappy, let it sit for several months, and then send another issue - at which point readers mark it as spam because they forgot they ever signed up. That's why even with double-opt-in it's not necessarily a perfect solution :P
