Smile Greetings

Hi, I'm new to the site as well. My husband and I are in the process of purchasing a small business (we sign tomorrow) and will soon be taking it to the web. The name of the store is Eastern Genuines, and it sells primarily Asian and African collectibles, Martial Arts supplies, ornamental weapons, jewelry and other nifty stuff.

The store is located in the historical Old Arcade in Cleveland, OH. We both work other jobs, but will be running the store ourselves. Our goal is for my husband to be able to quit his 3rd shift job and get paid from the physical store. I will probably stay at least part time at my current job, but hope to be able to do that by generating enough income through the website. (The physical store is my husband's gig and mine is the web version). The goal is more personal freedom in the long run.

Anyone else out there in a similar situation?

Hi Leej,

I was in a similar situation when I started a marketing company. I had the full time day job and worked in the evenings and weekends to get it off the ground. Very difficult indeed. A lot of hours!

My advice would be to get organized and schedule your time carefully. Also have your husband get some quality rest. Third shift is tough enough on your system and working retail on top of it would only add to his fatigue. Third shifters are a tough bunch, but his body will rebel at some point.

Persistance and good planning are going to be critical to your success.

Good luck and all the best!

Firstly, I wanted to say congratulations on buying one of my favorite little shops :-) I've been going to that store since I was a teenager. Good luck with it

I am currently working full time at the library while I simultaneously work on growing my small business. It's a grind that takes dedication but I'm confident I will launch my web store hopefully in October. If you need a good web designer I have the name of one who can give you a quote. Let me know.
