Default Too Much Spam In Blog

Hey guys, I need your help. I have a web development blog and I get almost 200 spam comments each day. Can you suggest a good Wordpress plugin to stop or minimize spam. Thanks in advance.

Are you using Akismet? That stops almost all the spam I get.

Hi Torka,
No, I haven't. I've read about that before but forgot the name. I'll give it a try, thanks for the help.

Regards

Askimet gets about 90% of it. I think they are charging a monthly fee now. Lately though for me Askimet has been filtering real comments as spam. So I have been fishing out real comments from time to time in the spam que. I have recently used a combination of Growmap Anti Spambot Plugin (G.A.S.P.) and AntiSpamBee. So far it seems to get the job done.

I recommend you install the WordPress Captcha plugin. Should stop most of the spam, except people who really want to comment me be annoyed.

When will they start charging? I already installed it. Yes, I just checked and some comments was filtered as spam. Thanks for the heads up. I will also try the two you mentioned and see if it's better than Akismet.

I already installed it. Great plugin. I agree, some of the mathematical question is a bit hard.

Why do you worry, almost all spammy coments go to spam folder and does not get published. Wordpress automatically detects such spammy comments and messages and send them to spam folder.

In my wordpress blog I have not added any plugin still I am not having any problem as wordpress takes care about it.

If you still get, then going for the akismet, captcha or any other good plugin are the best options.

I like Akismet as well, but be careful because it sometimes catches legitimate comments. I always check my spam folder before deleting the "spam." There's usually quite a few good comments in there that need to be restored back to the blog.

While using a Wordpress plugin you could "hire" a freelancer moderator to check if it removed good comments and check if it didn't remove spam comments (some of them of course, because it well remove most of them)
