Default What Do You Believe...design Or Sales?

My boyfriend is an artist, but I graduated with a marketing degree. We have been debating about which idea is better...his or mine.

He designed a personal website for his himself but after taking a look at it I claimed it was not good for selling himself nor displaying his talents. I think it is good, but a website needs to be great now a days to draw more traffic. Also it is missing something on the main "home" page.

He does not think his site needs help because we only know a certain style for websites, so my opinion is jaded.

Please share you ideas on what you think..and who do you side with...also if you have previous experience with design let me us know. He is worried that we will be bias since this is a business forum.

Cheers!

Sorry, I had to remove the link to his site. The forum rules say you have to have a minimum number of posts before you can request a site review.

In general, though, you want a website design to serve the purpose of the site. If the site is intended to sell, then it should be designed with that in mind. If it's simply to display his artwork or help him express himself artistically, then the design might be very different.

It also isn't necessary for a site to attract huge traffic for it to be worthwhile. It depends on who the intended audience is. Your boyfriend needs to decide what the purpose of his site is, and who he hopes to attract to view it. It's not about whether your design or his is "better," it's about what design and layout will best serve the purpose of the site.
