I did craigslist when i 1st created a web sites. Just because I wanted to show it off. The only deal I got offered was a trade deal with a dentist. And hits from my competors. Craigslist is the red light district for all industries even the yard sales. It put's you in a realm of low class desprate people that turn tricks. I would want to represent my business where the higher class will believe they are getting a high class painting buisnes.

My point is, will craigslist add creditably to your business? Or, will it give you a black eye?

And no, I didn't take the dentist up on their offer.

From my experience Craigslist attracts a lot of bottom feeders. These are the people who don't want to pay, or want to nickle-and-dime for services or products. If you're looking for online advertising you're much better off using PPC, eZine advertising, forum marketing, blog posting, and social media. Don't be afraid to pay for advertisments on established blogs and forum sites as well.

I do believe that craiglist is really effective in terms of marketing and its the reason why there are lots of people working on it. And craiglist is still going strong with this tight competition.

I use it for finding leads. My business is mainly B2B so I peruse the business services listings and contact appropriate companies to tell them about what we offer.

There's a time and a place for craigslist, but I find my business doesn't fit very well, responding to ads is always an option but posting your own is as likely to backfire as anything else.

Smile Craigs List is not the be all and end all

There's plenty of other marketing channels to use, many of them free. Set up your own FB, Twitter, blog, etc. Use a free referral site or pay a small fee for something like Angie's List, and you only have to list yourself once, not having to redo your ad all the time!

I would say it does work but to a certain extent. Craigslist shouldn't be relied on for 100% of your marketing efforts. Although some people actually hire "Craigslist posters" who post ads on there every day.

Default Old thread but hey....

I have found craigslist and Kijiji great for my business. I own a music school and Ive posted on CL 3 times and Kijiji twice. I got a new student every time. Which isn't bad for 10 minutes of work.

I've made a template ad for both and then I just copy and paste it in. Simple.

But I can see ho wit won't work for every business.
