Default International Shipping

We would like to begin shipping products internationally. Currently, we do not have our online shipping calculator set up for international shipping. From what we have seen, UPS international fees are high. Often much higher than the price of our products.

One thing we are considering is referring international customers to a shipping consolidator like myus.com or usbox.com or offering a link to multiple consolidators.

Has anyone used businesses like this for shipping products outside of the U.S.? Is so, please share.

Hi there, at first glance your products aren't great candidates for international shipping as they are bulky, inexpensive and probably not difficult for buyers to source locally.

Do you have some products which aren't like that? If so you could start slowly by placing a small selection with a global fulfillment service like Amazon FBA or Shipwire and seeing how they do. That way you avoid most of the hassle with shipping, customs etc. and get to see if there really is an international market for your goods.

Does that help?

Thanks for the reply, you are correct about bulky large products. We have always felt the same until the market demand has urged us to look into options. We have several customers that have requested international shipping. We get legitimate quote requests all the time and send several orders internationally. We just wanted some options for buyers to be able to fulfill international orders online instead of calling to place the orders.

Am I right in thinking you are using CoreCommerce for your site?

They support quite a few carriers - UPS, USPS, FedEx, FedEx Freight, UPS Freight LTL Ground, DHL, Canada Post, Australia Post, Royal Mail, South Eastern Freight, ABF, Echo Global - so perhaps you could support some additional ones from that list? If you want to offer a different carrier or consolidator you would have to figure out how to integrate them back into your site (CoreCommerce has an API so it should be possible, but will require some investment and effort on your part).

CoreCommerce also has in integration with ShipWorks which would give you more options (and perhaps save on your US shipping costs too).

Andy
