Default Help! Accidentally Ran Up Large Google Bill...

I had a problem with my landing page, but my adwords campaign was still running, leading to a lot of clicks and a $200 bill but no opt-ins.

Has anyone had any success in getting Google to cancel charges in cases like this?

Seems doubtful, they still have to pay their publishers and they're not in the business to loose money.

Welcome aboard, Joey!

From their perspective, you shouldn't have launched the campaign until everything was cool with the website. They showed the ads you wrote and charged you the price you agreed upon for clicks. To them, it really doesn't matter if you had problems on your end. You should have paused the campaign(s) until the site was ready to go. Sorry, but you're on the hook for the whole thing.

On the positive side, it sounds like the ads you wrote were working ...

StupiScript is right, you have to pause the campaign(s). (Go to Campaign Summary Page, check the box of the Campaign, Click "Pause" button.) Those customers will never remember your site if your site has problem. Do not wast your money.

Google makes a lot of money off of the mistakes of newbies to Adwords. My best advice to anyone who fears Adwords is to google "perry Marshall" It totally turned my adwords ads on turbo for a lower click price.

Hi Joey,
I have found that the best way to convert a click into a sale is by having someone near a computer during regular hours who can talk (VOIP) to your web page visitor immediately after they click (from page or banner). Now you can close the sale using your verbal skills The internet is the great equalizer, however the "wow" factor is always a good addition. Peerant (peerant.com) offers this type of solution. They only charge for the number of people who answer calls, not per click or per minute. Pretty cool stuff.

That is too bad, sorry for what you are going through but you signed on for a campaign and that is how Google will look at it. I would pause the campaign immediately so you don't accrue more charges. Get your site completely ready and then restart your campaign with a maximum charge amount set.

Why would they cancel it. Unfortunately, I can't see them canceling it and crediting you back your money as you asked for this advertising and they gave you it. It was easily enough to just put the advertising campaigns on hold with just a click of a button so you are in error here and not google. Sorry to hear about your downfall with this advertising program.
