Default Was Unsure About Whether Or Not To Charge Tax

Hi All,

I am in a bit of a problem here. I'm in a very 'green' partnership with a colleague. We have quite a bit of talent combined however only with the technical aspects of our side work. We only work on the side every now and then from our day jobs. I read into guides for starting a small business and I was fairly certain we did not need to register for GST, after all, we are a small supplier. I carried on charging no tax. Well HST rolled around and my associate told me we needed to charge it. I did, just once.I kept questioning it and did some research to see if my partner was correct.

Nope... Can't find a facepalm emote. Darn.

Anyway, what was done was done, it seems I can't really reverse this. So what do I do? Can I not just register for GST now then date it to the day of the charge and continue on from there? I just don't want to get into legal matters. The job itself wasn't even very high paying, should that make a difference. Taxes seem much clearer now to me, but now that I've shifted everything around, there's nothing out there explaining what to do if THIS odd mishap happens.

Can someone shed some light on what my next step is (aside from educating myself on fundamentals that save people from problems like this which is in the works!).
