Default Google Update?

Can anyone tell me when the next Google update may be? I have heard that it may happen anywhere from 3 to 8 weeks. Also does Google update pagerank and backlinks at the same time or is it different. Thanks.

I would describe google updating more along the lines of a continual process that does not occur at the same time for every site. The pagerank displayed in the toolbar and backlinks showed in the search results are not usually updated at the same time and it seems to be more of a cosmetic factor as the actual pagerank and backlinks have already been factored in at that point. Google Webmaster Central now has more extensive reporting of your backlinks, so I recommend signing up for that service is you are interested in researching your Google backlinks along with monitoring inclusion of your pages, etc.

One site to keep an eye on about recalculations coming down the line is the Matt Cutts one. He's a sort of blogging PR, engineer, SEO guru for Google

Good Luck

YehGoogle is a strange but powerful bird......

A couple weeks ago I made some changes by means of adding more text (testimonial) and a pic. Before the change my site was ranked first for my search term. Not on the first page, FIRST of all searches.

After the change.........................I was no where to be found for the exact same search term.

A few days passed and BAM I was first again.

Strange and frustrating, BUT very powerful still.

The term Google Dance used to refer to regular updates google did that impacted everyones ranking at the same time. Its been a couple years since things worked that way, and as mentioned above it is now more of a continuous/rolling update of rankings versus all at once like the days of the Google Dance. The toolbar pagerank and backlinks results do all update at the same time (with propagation to the vaious datacenters) but even then the actual pagerank and backlinks have already been factored into the rankings displayed for each site thru the continuous/rolling update... as you'll notice that as toolbar pagerank and backlinks are updated it does not impact rankings.

I've noticed similar trends. I suspect Google revert to an older 'ranking' of your site while they process the changes. Amending the template on an established blog (thus changing every page) seems to confuse them for a while.

(The smilie doesn't mean much - i just like it!)

-page rank update every 90 to 100 days and the next can be at the begining of the next month. no one can have the exact date.
- google every time add links to your web site but depend to web pages where you have add your link, some times that can take time to collect information from web. after they collect information you will get your links.
- google webmasters will give you more ideas about your links.
