Default Any Useful Ideas For A New Site?

Hi, I'm a newbie to this forum and a newbie to internet marketing... any thoughts on my situation would be greatly appreciated:

I've just started working for a Private Equity Lending company (in Toronto, Canada). Basically we extend mortgages to people based on the equity in their homes (good for bad credit). This is a well established company with a good track record, but no website. That's where I come in. We're putting together a site that targets the consumer directly. Normally in this business most referrals come from mortgage brokers who can be costly to the consumer and time consuming. We're trying to bypass the brokers and go directly to the consumer with this site.

I need to come up with some useful content for the site, or value-added content that will draw traffic to our site on a recurring basis. So far I've got some of the basics: A mortgage calculator, a market rates page, recent news / news letter section, Important credit tips, and terms and defintions.

None of these seem to be groundbreaking though. Can anyone think of any other services or features that the site could offer?

Thanks for any and all input

If I were you, I'd post this particular topic on The Real Estate Forum.

Just a suggestion.

I'd highly suggest adding a forum or blog to your site...

While it seems like an odd suggestion at first, it can generate significant traffic from people who search for your topic on google/yahoo etc...

If you keep the content updated, you can generate repeat traffic, all the while marketing yourself to potential clients...
