Default Do You Go Door-to-door?

How do you guys solicit customers? Do you go door-to-door? My business is geared towards small business. I am thinking to purchase a list of small business names and contacts and go door-to-door.

In your case and I hate to even say it...Direct mailer. For my landscape company..postcard flyers have done the trick and of course my website and local business listing. I just commented on another site regarding comment blogging on sites related to your niche.

I don't think that go door to door is effective as people get irritated very often and they are mostly not interested in products offered in such a way.

I totally agree with you. I think SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the best way to generate back links towards your web page/web site and thus get more business. door to door is an old fashioned rather I would like to say very irritating.

It has been said once, but I will have to agree with it. Direct mailers are becoming more effective since they have become less common. Give it a shot!

Door-to-door can be both effective and brutal. My cousin built his business entirely through B2B cold canvassing, and he's been at it over 15 years.

The company I work for has 40+ reps who generate new business this way as well. However, I don't recommend relying on it exclusively. Best to pick at least 3 marketing activities.

And don't waste your money buying a list. It's just as effective to pick an area with enough businesses, then park your car and walk.

Hope that helps.

Thumbs up john! The most important thing is get up and walk. Pound on a door and introduce yourself no answer leave a flyer on the door.

Second method simply eliminattes the door punding

I think you may be on the right track here buddy, but it highly depends on what you're trying to sell. As many people know, not everything works the same in different markets, people/businesses react differently towards these things.

But put in your position, I'd give it a go. There's really not much to lose.

I have to disagree to some extent. If done properly by the right sales people then door to door can be extremely effective. There is still quite a high percentage of people out there who still don't use the internet to find things and they are really put off by cold calling.

For SEO to be successful, your target audience must consist of self-directed buyers. A self-directed buyer is someone who:
  1. Knows he has a particular need
  2. Can describe that need in terms of a solution
  3. Knows where to find someone who can solve it
  4. Is motivated to find someone

Unfortunately, in many industries, a disconnect occurs, where the decision-maker does not equate their problem to a particular solution. Mine is a prime example. Business owners typically don't walk into their shop and say to themselves, "Gee, business is down; I think I'll phone ABC Company and have them provide some advertising for me." In my experience, they usually fret and do nothing.

If your target market is characteristically not self-directed, then hunter prospecting methods like cold-canvassing and cold-calling may be your only recourse. If they're a mix of both, then try both types of marketing.

There's a very successful web agency in my town who recently posted a job opening for a sales person. One of the required qualities was that he or she be a "hunter-style business generator." Even SEO companies cannot rely entirely on backlinks and click-throughs to generate enough business.
