You really have no control over when or if Dmoz lists your site. It's run by human editors so there is very little consistency across categories. Just submit once, strictly adhering to their guidelines, and move on

If you want to "upgrade" the Alexa rank, install the Alexa toolbar and visit your own site several times over the course of the day. Get your co-workers to do the same thing. You will see your rank improve quickly.

If you don't want to go through that trouble, it's not that hard to program a script to launch a browser and visit your site on your behalf. Just set it up on a spare computer with the toolbar installed and let it run all day.

The point is, the "Alexa rank" isn't going to be improved by getting a DMOZ listing. The Alexa rank measures the number of visits to your site by people who have the Alexa toolbar installed.

Because it only measures visits by people who have the toolbar installed, Alexa doesn't give a good representation of actual website traffic. If you want to know how your site traffic is improving, use a web log analysis program or install Google Analytics (it's free).

Alexa is very easy to manipulate and it doesn't measure anything particularly useful. It might be better to explain to your boss why Alexa rankings aren't worth tracking and instead try to focus on measuring (and improving) things that really matter -- like sales and revenue.

Hi echowanna, Dmoz is very picky about who they add to their directory. More often than not: webmasters who submit a link to the Dmoz directory end up waiting months - even a year or more - to see their link added.

You can speed the process up by contacting the directory administrators often to check the status of your link.

Not only that, but Dmoz only updates their directory every few months; not monthly or even weekly.

It pays to go back to the dmoz site and find the category that you wanted your URL added and at the very bottom of the page check and see when it was last updated.

The editors work in their own categories, and some editors have stopped checking and adding sites. If you find that the category you wanted to be added to hasnt been upgraded for over 3 months, pick a different category.

Getting listed in dmoz wont increase your alexa rank, it will just mean that alexa has your info in their database and that you can be added to the top 100,000 graph (you cant be listed inthe graph if your not in dmoz, but you can still be on the site)

Consider that part of your long list of marketing items you need to accomplish on your way to making an impact over the next 6 or 12 months......not "the thing" that will make a difference.

10 years and running....still the most-loved promotional product!

most people say that its importance is dwindling because of the number of illegal activities associated with DMOZ, as an example

and claims that it is tied to organized crime............

It really depends on how active the DMOZ editor is for that category - one of my sites took about 4 months. Don't feel down, if you following the submission guidelines, it's really just a matter of being patient.
