Default Newspaper Online

Have a guy who wants to put a small local paper online. Subscriber base is around 20-25k.

Not sure what to charge for the initial setup and would like repeat business - it's a weekly so taking the data and changing it to html would be a source of repeat income.

Anyone been down a similiar path?

What questions should I be asking, what other sources of revenue can be made from this site?

Welcome aboard

I'd just charge by the hour and give him an estimate of what you think it will take. While I can understand that you want to get the most out of this and have recurring revenue, the other can always get what he needs elsewhere. Better just to do it and get paid based on the work instead of trying to make it into something it isn't. imo.

Smile Re: Newspaper

Thanks for the advice. charging a single fee and not worrying about repeat business is probably best. Plus this is a small operation, so they don't the added expense of weekly updates. So building it in such a way so that they can easily update themselves makes a lot of sense.

Building this site in this way will help to get more business - if I take care of him, he is more likely to recommend my work to others.

Since this is my first stab at a commercial site, I am taking a real SWAG at the hours.
